The Path Between Writing and Publishing

My wife's website ran on Squarespace (which I had built for her) for two years, with four blog posts in that time.

The easy read was lack of content, but she writes all the time, mostly on her phone, going back and forth with an AI until an article feels right.

The problem was everything after that. Getting the text out of the chat and onto the site meant sitting at a computer (often with me), formatting it, picking an image and publishing. She's a doctor, and time is one of her scarcest resources, so most articles stayed as drafts.

Three other things were piling up:

  • She recently worked with a designer on a new brand, and applying it in Squarespace meant redoing every page by hand. Which I hate doing now that we have AI lol.
  • SEO and GEO (showing up in AI answers) were manual work with very little control over the technical side.
  • No easy API path to automate anything.

Each of these was fixable inside Squarespace with enough effort. Together, they changed the goal from redoing the site to building one she could feed on her own, from the same place she already writes, and that would be much cheaper for me to maintain and expand.

That turned the question from "which platform" into "how short can the path between writing and publishing get." Next.js on Vercel, built and maintained with Claude Code, answered it better, because the whole site becomes something an agent can operate.

The new site is live now. In a later post I'll share how I got her to publish directly from her phone, just by talking to Claude.
